Is Networking Enough to Grow Your Business… Or Do You Need More?

Networking can be such a valuable part of growing a business. It gets you out from behind the screen, puts you in the room with other people who understand what it’s really like, and reminds you that you’re not doing it all on your own.

For a lot of people, it’s also where things start to shift. Confidence builds, conversations become easier, and suddenly you’re not just thinking about your business in isolation - you’re talking about it, sharing it, and connecting with people who genuinely get it. That in itself is a big step.

But there’s something I’ve noticed time and time again.

You can be doing all of that - showing up, meeting people, building relationships - and still feel like your business isn’t moving forward in the way you expected it to.

It’s Not Just About Being in the Room

The real value of networking doesn’t just come from attending events. It comes from what happens afterwards.

It’s the message you send after a conversation, the idea you decide to act on, or the opportunity you stop overthinking and finally say yes to. That’s where things start to shift.

Without that next step, networking can end up feeling like something you do regularly, rather than something that actually moves your business forward. You leave feeling positive, maybe even motivated, but a few days later you’re back in the same place, with the same ideas still sitting there.

That’s not because networking doesn’t work. It’s because it’s only one part of what’s needed.

Why Things Can Start to Feel Stuck

I speak to so many business owners who are doing all the right things on paper. They’re attending events, putting themselves out there, and building great connections. From the outside, it looks like everything is heading in the right direction.

But behind the scenes, there’s often a quiet frustration.

Because those conversations aren’t always turning into action. The ideas don’t always get followed through. The opportunities sit there a little too long before anything happens with them.

And over time, that can start to feel like you’re doing a lot… without really moving forward.

Where the Real Growth Comes From

The business owners who tend to get the most from networking aren’t just showing up - they’re doing something with what comes from it.

They take the conversations and build on them. They follow up, make decisions, and use those connections as a starting point for what comes next. They don’t leave everything sitting in their head.

That’s where the difference is.

And that’s also the bit that a lot of people find hardest, because it’s not always obvious what the next step should be, or how to turn a good conversation into something more.

This Is Where Support Makes the Difference

This is why I see networking and mentoring as working hand in hand, rather than being two separate things. Networking helps you get into the room, meet people, and open doors. Mentoring helps you make sense of what’s coming from those conversations and decide what to actually do with it.

It gives you a space to talk things through, get clearer on what matters, and most importantly, follow things through in a way that feels manageable rather than overwhelming.

Because often, it’s not more networking that’s needed. It’s support around what you’re already doing.

If You’re Already Showing Up… Let’s Make It Count

If you’re putting yourself out there, having conversations, and building connections, you’re already doing a big part of the work.

The next step is making sure it actually leads somewhere.

If you’ve been feeling like something is missing, it might not be about doing more. It might just be about having the right support in place to help you move things forward.

And if you’re local to Shropshire and looking for a relaxed place to start or build those connections, you’re always welcome to come along to one of my networking events. It’s a space where you can show up as you are, have real conversations, and start building those relationships in a way that feels natural.

Alongside that, mentoring is there to help you take what comes from those conversations and actually move things forward in your business.
